anam cara

means soul friend in Gaelic.

Nature has become my anam cara.

Traditionally, an anam cara (anam chara) was a close spiritual friend or advisor. In the more ancient past, an anam cara was a confessor—someone you’d entrust with your burdens and joys. An anam cara listens, then sends you away refreshed and relieved. Guides you toward wisdom, kindness, and awareness.

The relationship is meant to be reciprocal.

I founded Anam Cara Flower Farm in 2021 in Vermont so I could partner closely with nature and share her beauty and bounty with my community. Since then, I moved to Martha’s Vineyard, and I farm at Lambert’s Cove Inn and in partnership with Pilot Hill Farm in West Tisbury. Our farming follows organic practices and provides healthy habitat for pollinators.

I love being outside among the flowers, hanging with my best friends and sidekicks, my two border collies: Pearl and Cait.

We pledge to temporarily farm the land and tend to her and her flowers and herbs and creatures with the utmost care.
